The Driver CPC training (certificate of professional competence) is aimed at professional drivers who drive passenger carrying vehicles, or large goods vehicles throughout europe and the UK. Driver CPC was created as a requirement of the EU Directive 2003\59, which is intended to increase the knowledge and skills of Passenger carrying vehicles and Large Goods Vehicles drivers throughout the duration of their career.

There are two distinct and seperate parts to the legislation: The first being the CPC Qualification that must be attained by Large good and Passenger carrying vehicle drivers alongside their existing vocational licence in order to enable them to drive for commercial purposes, The second provision is the requirement for periodic training, every five years professional lgv and cpv drivers must undergo 35 hours of training to remain qualified.

The intended purpose of driver CPC is to increase the knowledge and skill base of professional drivers, it covers Road freight safety issues and passenger transportation safety issues, aswell as environmental issues.

PERIODIC TRAINING

Truck and Bus drivers are now required to undertake five days training once every 5 years, the training should cover the following subjects:

ADVANCED RATIONAL DRIVING TRAINING (SAFETY REGULATION BASED)

  • understanding the vehicles transmission system and making the best use of it.
  • Knowledge of the technical specifications and safety controls - this helps the driver to handle the vehicle, reduce damage to the vehicle through normal use, and lower the risk of malfunctions.
  • fuel consumption and how to drive economically.
  • Safe loading of the vehicle and compliance with safety rules.
  • passenger safety and comfort.
  • correct vehicle use.

WHAT IS COVERED IN DRIVER CPC?

  • Understanding the Social nature of road transport.
  • A study of regulations relevent to LGV drivers.
  • A study of regulations relevent to PCV drivers.

ENVIROMENTAL HEALTH and SAFETY, ROAD LOGISTICS

  • Increase driver awareness of the potential risks and accidents associated with their job.
  • Prevention of criminal enterprise and illegal immigration/people trafficing.
  • Prevention of physical risks.
  • Understanding the importance of physical (Manual Handling) and mental ability.
  • How to evaluate and handle emergencies.
  • How drivers can effect the public perception of their company.
  • Understanding of the economic environment of road haulage and the structure of the market.
  • Understanding the economic environment of road passenger carriage, and the structure of the market.
