Health & Safety policy

Do you have all your policys?
Are they managed?
When was the last review?
Need Advice?

RE Consultancy can audit and advise you on all policy requirements.

A health and safety policy is a means of setting out your businesses approach and objectives with regards to health and safety (your companies vision) it aslo should detail any arrangements you have already put in place with regards to managing health and safety within your business. It is a bespoke document that details who does what with regards to health and safety, when they should do it, and how.

If your business has five or more employees, you must have a written health and safety policy by law. A written policy shows your employees, customers, and members of the public, that you are commited to improving the health and safety of your business. It should also describe the methods used to implement your health and safety controls and how they are monitored. Health and safety policy should be reviewed on a regular basis.

A policy is not to be confused with a risk assessment. A policy has a much wider angle, and details the general vision and health and safety organisational structure for the whole company. By comparison, a risk assessment is a methodical review of how you remove or control each consequential hazard, and whether or not your remedial steps are proving effective.

Examples of topics to be covered in the policy statement could include:

  • Management of risk assessments
  • Arrangements for consulting with staff on a regular basis
  • Maintainance of plant and equipment arrangements
  • safe handling arrangements and safe use of substances
  • Information, Supervision, and instruction arrangements
  • Training Arrangements
  • Accident arrangements, how will you deal with first aid and health issues?
  • Monitoring arrangements
  • Emergency response procedures
