| Asbestos Surveys |
|
All of our surveys are tailored to meet the clients individual requirements. There are 3 distinct types of asbestos surveys, which are detailed below. Occasionally 2 types of survey may be required on the same site, an example of such a scenario would be when one section of a building is going to be demolished or refurbished (Type 3 survey required) and although the rest of the property will remain untouched it still requires a survey (This section of the site would need a type 1 or type 2 survey).
Type 1 Asbestos SurveyA visual survey where no samples are subjected to analysis. This kind of survey is normally a precursor to a more in-depth Type 2 or type 3 sampling survey.
Type 2 Asbestos SurveyIn the type two survey all areas that are reasonably accessible will be checked for ACM's (asbestos containing materials) samples of any suspicious materials will be taken by the surveyor to a UKAS accredited lab to undergo analysis. A type 2 survey gives you a definitive answer regarding whether or not a particular material contains asbestos.
Type 3 Asbestos SurveyThe type 3 survey is really an extension of type 2. Because this survey involves gaining access to cavities and sealed voids it is normally only commissioned where extensive refurbishment or demolition works are planned. If there is asbestos anywhere in the property, this survey will locate it.
Upon completion of any type survey the client will be provided with the following: A comprehensive report which details the findings regarding asbestos containing materials discovered by the surveyor. The report will also list any areas that the surveyor was unable to access and possible ACM's that the surveyor feels these areas may contain. An asbestos register which is intended to allow you to document and monitor asbestos containing materials, as well as plan your corrective measures. Recommendations and assessments for each area or asbestos containing item that the survey discovered. Photographs of areas and items that have been sampled (or plans). Areas where no access was possible and ACM's are thought to be present will aslo be included. This information is intended to assist you with the identification process and location of ACM's. Practical and impartial advice relating to the removal or treatment of any asbestos containing materials that were discovered. Advice regarding monitoring the ACM's with periodic inspections and how to maintain the records in your asbestos register. A lab analysis report showing the results for all samples that were analysed (type 2 survey & type 3 survey only). The surveys that RE Consultancy conduct can provide the basis for your management plan to satisfy your legal obligations as the duty holder under regulation 4 of the "Control Of Asbestos At Work" Regulations 2002.
